Edward Bowen

I have made these works ‘’in betweeny’’ the everyday dealings, livings, struggles, rituals and joys since 1987, the first drawing a 25 by 3 foot scroll of paper, now very yellowed, is hidden away in its own tightly closed wooden box in my studio. An explosion went off in my head with that piece of work, the beginning of this language, this text in drawing, and I wondered that I should not stop what I was experiencing, which was an effortless unfolding of subconscious ideas. This story has been heavily influenced by a study in yoga and of course my own fascination and study in drawing, the activity being integral to my studio business as a painter over the same time period since I left art school in the UK, and returned to Trinidad in 1985.
